The Hydraulic Hybrid INGOCAR is a medium size 5-seat passenger car, driven by a new hydrostatic powertrain with energy storage. It drives like a conventional car with an automatic transmission, but its powertrain is significantly more efficient, powerful and lighter. This not only improves the fuel consumption, emissions and safety conditions, the driving performance and comfort have improved too.
The INGOCAR's design has been revised, improving the mileage from 130 mpg to 170 mpg. The basic concept remains the same, but the energy management has been tightened and the structure further simplified. The weight reduction from 2,200 lb to 1,600 lb (1,000 kg to 725 kg) and a 20% better engine efficiency are the main factors for the 30% improvement in mileage. |

On the path toward powertrain electrification, our current development activities focus on the hybrid engine, on purely electric driving, or on the range extender. The latter is a small combustion engine that powers a generator, which then charges a battery over longer distances. This battery, in turn, delivers energy for an electric motor. Besides these technologies, we are also working on the fuel cell as an energy converter. Powertrain electrification is becoming ever more important. This is because the electric motor is the most efficient means of powering a car. With one kilowatt hour of energy, a conventional combustion engine can cover a distance between 1.5 and 2.5 kilometers. Even the diesel hybrid, which combines a diesel engine with an electric motor, can cover a maximum of 3.2 kilometers on the same amount of energy. In contrast, a car with an electric motor can get 6.5 kilometers out of one kilowatt hour. This is why we believe that in the distant future, the car will be powered by an electric motor. |

A range of electric delivery vehicles being developed for the North, Central and South American markets will use a highly integrated 70kW powertrain from UK specialist Zytek. Developed with the support of a $39 million (£23 million) US Government grant, the vehicles will be manufactured by a new joint venture company being established by US truck supplier Navistar and British electric commercial vehicle specialist Modec.

Since the foundation of Schmidhauser AG, we develop highly efficient power electronics for the conversion of electrical energy.
